Contemplative Prayer History

Contemplative Prayer, also called Centering Prayer, is a long standing tradition within the Christian Church, specifically the Catholic Church, with roots as early as the 4th century AD. This rich mystical tradition has experienced persecution but now seems to be in the midst of a revival. With proponets such as Thomas Merton and Thomas Keating, Contemplative Prayer is breathing new life into a hungry world, but has also been met with much controversy.
